Telling Your Story with Photography | Print |

There is no better way to tell your story than to show your product in action. Showing your product "doing its job" in a photograph can quickly catch the attention of potential customers. These customers can clearly see what your product does and see that it can solve their problem. Just viewing an image of your product in action typically raises the customer's confidence in you and may help lower the barriers for a sale.

The problem you will likely face is: how to produce these images. If you have tried in the past, you know that taking a dynamic and quality image showing the application of your product in the real world can be extremely difficult—if not impossible! There are many reasons for this. Here are just a few:

  • The product installation may be hundreds or thousands of miles away.
  • Your product may be buried deep within a machine and hard to see.
  • It may cost too much to send a professional photographer and all of his lighting gear to the job site.
  • Shooting on site may interrupt production, or cause safety or liability issues with the owner.
  • You may not be able to get permission at all to shoot on site, or to include name-brand items that would be present in your shot.
  • The product application may be dirty or just not very photogenic.
  • And the list goes on...

A great alternative to all of this is to create a mock-up of your product application right in the studio. Under the controlled conditions of the studio, it is easier to create a dynamic image that will clearly show your product in action. You can also simplify the image somewhat to remove items that would otherwise obscure your product or compete with it as the center of attention.

You may strive to have your image look exactly like the real thing, with every detail just right. Or you may stylize your image to present just the concept of the application in a very eye-catching way. The style of your application images may even become a trademark for you.

Finally, these images do not come without cost. An image that is intended to look like an exact replica of the real application might require the purchase of thousands of dollars of real machinery components to set up in the studio. You might even need to hire technicians to pull it all together. Even the simplest of images still require a very close eye to detail and the ability to find and acquire many required items. But in the end, it can really pay off when your images resonate with your target audience and improve your bottom line.

Shown below are a series of product application images created by Regal Eye in the studio. After getting some details from the client and utilizing our vast experience in this area, we were able to design the images, acquire all of the necessary props, and produce the final images with no further assistance from the client. We were also able to use very generic products that are recognizable, but not an issue with trademarks.

Minimizing the client's involvement saved them lots of time and money, plus they didn't have to worry about any of the hundreds of details involved. They could spend their time tending to their business. And, as you can see, the resulting images are eye-catching, dynamic, and tell their story very effectively.
